Centering Financial Inequality and Bank of Dave - introduction

This activity is a little different from the other FlickThink activities and products that we have shared with you so far. Instead of providing an open activity that a teacher or lecturer can use for a clip of their own choosing, with critical thinking scaffolded into it, we have a complete workshop for you which will take you and your students on a journey, exploring the topic of financial inequality, how it is built into our society (and often even curricula), and how the movie Bank of Dave (2023) can help us explore alternatives.

This workshop is intended for a diverse audience – though some small adjustments may need to be made for students outside the field of business – to begin understanding what may be the importance/value of centering financial inequality in our understanding of the world or in our professional field or in our curriculum. It is intended to help participants consider their own stance towards financial inequality in a more active way than they might usually do, as well as to allow them to uncover the way the financial system may actively be working against their personal morals and values.
