CONCLAVE & CRITICAL THINKING

Wypkje van der Heide and Jacco van Uden

Can fiction film teach us something about how the world works? Together we are going to watch a current and topical fiction film and mine it for fragments. During the film you can ask yourself: what would you use from this film to stimulate critical thinking, perhaps already linking it to the morning sessions. After watching we will explore the ideas, led by Jacco van Uden and Wypkje van der Heide, to get you set up and teach it in your own context.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Wypkje is the instigator of FlickThink’s practice – on how to teach critical thinking with film/arts. As both senior lecturer at IB and researcher for research group Change Management, and now as project leader for the Dutch Educational Awards she is working on upscaling this practice. Wypkje likes to be shocked into thinking. Film does this for her and she uses it to get students to think.

Jacco van Uden likes to like to think that art is of vital importance to the world of business, management & organization. The best is thing about good art is that it is never straightforward or conclusive. Art invites us to reconnect with the stuff that we have come to take for granted. And as such, it helps challenge business as usual. And so, as a professor of Change Management at THUAS he spends most of his days trying to find out how we can use art to rethink and reshape business practices. That’s pretty much a full time job.
